I enjoy a glass of wine as much as the next girl, but when I started this weight-loss journey, I wondered if drinking alcohol would hinder my progress. When I asked my trainer, Tomery, she didn?t hesitate to say that, while she has nothing against alcohol, passing on cocktails can only help me reach my weight goals.
"Alcohol is loaded with sugar, which can disrupt our sleep," she said. "It also desensitizes us to our actual hunger level, meaning we don?t realize our body is full, so we?re more likely to overeat.? That?s exactly one of my downfalls, especially since I enjoy pairings such as wine and cheese or margaritas and nachos.
When I talked to my dietitian, Lauren, she agreed and suggested I give up the alcohol while losing weight, although she added that after I slim down, I can enjoy the occasional drink if I'm in the mood.
Since talking to them, I've noticed that when I have a glass or two of wine at night, I?m more likely to stay up late, whereas when I don?t drink, I?m aware that I?m getting tired. And Tomery is right: One glass of vino is enough for me to awaken multiple times throughout the night.

I haven?t had a drink in several weeks and I can?t believe I?m saying this, but I really don?t miss alcohol. In fact, I feel great! I wake up feeling refreshed rather than tired and dehydrated.
And while the thought of social events was really intimidating at first, I?ve found that enjoying a virgin Bloody Mary or some sparkling water with lemon is just fine, plus I?m less likely to make my way to the food table where calories that I don?t need await. Seems like skipping the drink is the right choice for my weight-loss plan.?
