Around the horn in the NFLX

Road dogs continued to bark in the NFL preseason action going 3-3 against the points on Saturday and are currently 9-5 this week. The Over continues to rule in Week III action going 4-2 last night and is now 11-2-1 for the week. A significant amount of points have been scored in second half garbage time, something you may want to keep in mind until teams make cuts to get their rosters down to more manageable levels.

Tonight, Andrew Luck makes his prime-time NFL debut on NBC when the Colts take on the Steelers in Pittsburg. The game opened at Pittsburg -3.5 and the total 37.5 and has been bet up to Steelers -4 and 38. Weather at the 8:00 PM EST kickoff is expected to be cloudy, 72 degrees, light wind, with a 30% chance of light rain.

In the Monday night finale on ESPN, the Eagles travel to New England to take on the Patriots at Foxboro. The game opened Pats -3 with the total 39 but Eagle money has plunged the number to New England -1, the total jumping to 41 before settling on 40 and the hook. Michael Vick is probable. The temperature at kickoff is expected to be 78 degrees with the skies partly cloudy.

MLB Diamond Dust

The 39-82 last-place Houston Astros have fired manager Brad Mills. Hitting coach Mike Barnett and first-base coach Bobby Meacham have also been shown the door. The Astros were just 3-24 in the month of July, 6-29 in the second half, 12-48 on the road, and just 1-11 in extra innings games. Mills, who took over just prior to the start of the 2010 season, leaves Houston with a 171-274 mark as the Astros manager.

The Cubs and shortstop Starlin Castro have agreed to terms on a seven-year, $60-million contract extension. This year, the 22-year-old two-time All-Star is batting .278/.309/.423 with 12 homers and 19 stolen bases. He?s a career .297/.333/.422 hitter. Castro was the first of the recent run of teen phenoms that have made the bigs when elevated to the big club as a 19-year-old in 2009.

Sergio Garcia takes one-shot lead into the Wyndham final

Sergio Garcia sits at 14-under and takes a one-shot lead into the final round in the Wyndham Championship at Greensboro. Bud Cauley and Tim Clark are both just one shot back with Jason Dufner, Harris English, and Carl Pettersson two back. Twenty-one golfers start the day within five shots of the lead with 18 holes to be played. With big sub-par rounds being shot all week, the Wyndham is anyone?s tournament to win.

Little Mike wire-to-wire in the Arlington Million

Little Mike and jock Ramon Dominguez loped through six furlongs in a leisurely 1:15 and then sprinted away from the field to capture the 30th running of the Arlington Million. Little Mike ran the 1? miles in 2 minutes 2.44 seconds and paid $9.80, $5.60, and $4.40. Britain?s Afsare closed fast on the turf, but finished 1? lengths back in second. Rahystrada and Colombian dead-heated for third. The field of 11 featured five stake placed European horses. Irish-bred favorite Crackerjack King finished fifth.

Rousey defends title in just 54 seconds

The face of women?s MMA has done it again as ?Rowdy? Rhonda Rousey defended her Strikeforce bantamweight title submitting Sarah Kaufman in just 54 seconds. The end came just like Rousey?s five prior victims, via an armbar. Rousey attacked from the belll, pinning Kaufman against the cage and gaining position with a quick takedown. Kaufman was able to defend the armbar twice but the third try Rousey cinched it in tight to gain the win. The Queen of Strikeforce wasted little time calling out ex-lightweight champ Cris Cyborg who will come of a PED suspension at the end of the year.
