Dolphin releases Engine Beta browser, claims to be the fastest browser on Android

There is no shortage of third-party browsers available for the Android platform, and Android 4.0 users even have the option to use the excellent Google Chrome Beta for Android, if they wish. But that isn't stopping Dolphin from improving on its own browser. The company has just released a beta version of Dolphin Browser HD called Dolphin Engine. Dolphin Engine is said to be the fastest HTML5 browser available for the Android platform.

From the outside, the Dolphin Engine version of the Dolphin Browser HD looks just like the original Dolphin Browser. But under the hood, the new Dolphin Engine features an enhanced back-end that makes web browsing much faster than before. According to Dolphin, the new back-end includes improvements in canvas element, 2D context, and text rendering. There's also enhanced browser features like GPU accelerated canvas rendering and optimized CPU / GPU parallel computing.

What does all of that techno mumbo-jumbo mean? Well, Dolphin says that its new browser is 5 to 10 times faster than the default Android browser, 100 percent (2 times) faster than Chrome in certain situations, and scores the highest among comparable mobile browsers in HTML5 support tests. Better HTML5 support translates into a better web app experience, too.

The Dolphin Browser HD with the Dolphin Engine is still in beta, so it is not yet available in the Google Play Store. You can try it out for yourself now by downloading the installer here.
