eBay has made it a lot easier for everyone to start a business from home. And there are many examples of people who started a business in their homes and turned it into a multimillion dollar company. But there are many many more people who tried and failed. They got started and the business never turned into a successful venture. They didn?t sell their items at profitable prices. Or they bought wholesale but could not sell for profits. They actually had all the elements it takes to succeed on eBay, but they did not treat their home-based business like a business ? instead they treated it like a hobby.
Before you start your eBay business, take this quiz to see if you are ready. Please answer all the questions first before you look at the answers.
Question 1: Do you think it is a good idea to start out selling on eBay by selling electronics like iPhones, flatscreen TVs, DVD players, laptops and so on?
Question 2: Is it better to use descriptive adjectives in auction titles or to use only keywords? Example: ?Wireless Microphone With Amazing Sound Quality? or ?Sabine Swm7000 Handheld Mic Microphone Wireless Transm?
Question 3: Is it better to write your auction titles in capital letters, or all lowercase or all uppercase? Example: Men?s Diesel Dirty Thirty Limited Edition Jeans (capital letters), men?s diesel dirty thirty limited edition jeans (lowercase), MEN?S DIESEL DIRTY THIRTY LIMITED EDITION JEANS (upper case)
Question 4: If you had to choose only one of these listing features on eBay, which one would you choose? Highlight, gallery image or bold?
Question 5: Why is the eBay WantItNow section important for you as a seller?
Now these were five questions. If you have answered them all it?s now time to look at the right answers. But please do not respond unless you really have answered all five questions already.
Answer to question 1: No ? the eBay electronics category is the probably most competitive category on eBay. The successful sellers in this category really have to buy wholesale ? and I?m talking hundreds of thousands of dollars of merchandise that they buy so they can sell at competitive prices. There are other categories on eBay that are way more easy to make profits in without having to invest money up front.
Answer to question 2: Keywords always win. Most people find auctions through the search function or through browsing in the relevant categories. The phrase ?with amazing sound quality? doesn?t really convey information ? because probably every seller will tell you that the microphone has amazing sound quality. But if you put in specific keywords that describe the model number your chances are much more likely that people who are willing to buy your item find your auction.
Answer to question 3: Statistic tests have shown that in most cases all uppercase gets the most attention and the most bids. Second best is capital letters, and all lowercase is the worst.
Answer to question 4: The gallery image is definitely the most important extra feature that you want to add to your eBay auction. After eBay has analyzed a huge amount of data they found that using a gallery image in your auction listing can enhance conversion 25% to 200%.
Answer to question 5: the eBay WantItNow section is important to you as a seller because it is a great place to do market research. You don?t want to hang around the WantItNow place so that you can find items that people are looking for and sell it to them. That is just too time-consuming. But you want to use it for your market research arsenal. And you want to automate that.
